Our History
The seeds of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Madisonville were sown more than 100 years ago, when Bishop Thomas Dudley confirmed four women of the area on November 21, 1881.Over the next 25 years, services were held mainly in private homes. The seeds finally came to fruition when the North Main property where the church now stands was bought in 1912. Earlington’s Episcopal Mission joined the Madisonville group and a building was completed in June 1917.By 1947 only ten communicants remained. Then a steady progress began and by 1953 St. Marys had its first full time minister- the Rev. Taylor Stevenson of Owensboro and 35 baptized members. Since then, the seed that was planted many years ago has seen steady growth both physically and spiritually.
